It starts out with... AND SPOILERS HERE (in case you would rather take in the beauty of Jaws: The Revenge on your own) the younger son of Sheriff Brody from the original Jaws (who has died off screen because he didn't want to be in this movie... for which I don't blame him) is attacked in the very beginning and killed. Brody's widow believes... wait for it... the shark personally came after the family. THIS TIME IT'S PERSONAL!
Michael Caine plays Hoagie, a man who we never quite learn his backstory. We know he's a pilot and had some previous dealings in the Amazon. Beyond that, we're not sure. We'll get into more of that in a moment. But perhaps the answers lie in another film...
Hold on to your butts. It's about to get real.
Let's rewind to Jaws: The Revenge. Ellen Brody and "Hoagie" are flying in his plane, when a little of his backstory comes up. He says, "One time I was flying supplies up the Amazon. Went down in the jungle... got picked up by a tribe of head-hunters.... They took me to the chief, who took a long look at me, then took me in his hut..."
Ellen quickly tells him the plane is turning and the story isn't mentioned again. Also, we do not know his real name. You can bet he wasn't born Hoagie Newcombe. It's a close call, but Hoagie survives the final battle and seemingly lives happily ever after. Even so, when they explore the Ellen and Hoagie relationship, you get a sense of it not working out and them happily going their separate ways.
Near the end of our movie/adventure, "Hoagie" calls in a rescue plane. He makes the call into the radio, calling "Thomas." We do not get a last name. All we know is Michael Caine, whose real FIRST name is NOT Hoagie, calls a man names Thomas for help, a man whose LAST name we do not know either. You see where I'm going with this?
In the scene that follows, Bruce Wayne is left almost speechless, amazed at the lengths Joker will go. Alfred, Bruce's most trusted confidant, tells him a little story about the kind of man Joker is...
So let's piece together this story. Shall we?
Then, the events of Jaws: The Revenge take place. He calls in for help to a man named Thomas... and I'm willing to bet that Thomas' last name is none other than Wayne. That's why after the events of Jaws: The Revenge, he gave up his Hoagie nickname and went to work for his buddy who sent help... Thomas Wayne.
Now because he eventually leaves that life behind and uses his legal name, Alfred, becoming the butler and aid to the Wayne family, it makes the entire Jaws franchise set within the DC Universe, or at least the Nolan-verse.
There you have it, folks. A theory so strong, shark repellent Bat-spray couldn't make it go away.
BONUS DLC CONTENT
All of it is true, but granted... the movie is still crap. So, I was asked by a friend to do this for Jaws: The Revenge. I decided now would be a great time.
This movie features a family with a troubled past. After the father has died because of a heart attack, the rest of the family has managed to put their lives back together... until a deadly accident claims the life of the younger brother of two. The older brother and their mother must find a way to overcome life's biggest obstacle, while still keeping the memory of those lost alive.
That is Jaws: The Revenge.
